What to Expect During Your Contact Lens Exam

A contact lens exam is different from a standard glasses prescription. During your appointment, we will:

    • Assess your eye health and check for any conditions that could affect contact lens wear
    • Measure your cornea and tear film for a precise fit
    • Discuss your lifestyle and visual needs
    • Recommend lenses that provide optimal comfort and vision clarity

After your initial fitting, most patients return in one to two weeks to check that the lenses fit correctly and feel comfortable.

Types of Contact Lenses We Offer

We offer a variety of contact lenses to fit your lifestyle, vision needs, and comfort preferences:

  • Daily, bi-weekly, and monthly disposables: Convenient, hygienic options that suit your schedule and make lens care simple.
  • Toric lenses: Designed to correct astigmatism and provide clear, stable vision throughout the day.
  • Multifocal lenses: Perfect for patients with presbyopia, offering sharp vision at near, intermediate, and far distances.
  • Aspheric lenses: Engineered for sharper, more precise vision, reducing distortions and improving clarity.
  • Soft contact lenses for myopia control: Help slow the progression of nearsightedness in children while providing comfortable, everyday wear.

Each lens type is carefully selected based on your eye health, lifestyle, and visual goals, and our doctors guide you to the option that works best for you.

Our Specialty Contact Lenses

For patients with unique vision needs, we also provide specialty lenses:

  • Scleral lenses: These large lenses vault over the cornea and rest on the white of the eye. They provide excellent vision correction for irregular corneas, keratoconus, or severe dry eye, while maintaining comfort throughout the day.
  • Ortho-k lenses: Worn overnight, these rigid lenses gently reshape the cornea to reduce nearsightedness during the day. They are helpful for children with progressing myopia and reduce dependence on glasses or daytime contacts.
  • Custom multifocal lenses: Designed for patients needing correction for near, intermediate, and distance vision. These lenses are ideal for presbyopia and provide clear vision with comfort.
  • Rigid gas-permeable lenses: These lenses are designed to help patients with high amounts of astigmatism, irregular corneas, or those who desire the sharpest vision.

Keep Your Contact Lenses Comfortable and Safe

Wearing contact lenses is simple and convenient, but proper care is essential for clear vision and healthy eyes. At Pasadena Optometry Center, we guide every patient on the best practices for handling, cleaning, and storing lenses.

Follow these tips for safe and comfortable lens wear:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your lenses.
  • Clean and disinfect lenses as recommended for your lens type.
  • Follow your replacement schedule, whether daily, bi-weekly, or monthly.
  • Store lenses properly in a clean case with fresh solution and replace the case every three months.
  • Avoid sleeping or swimming in lenses.
  • Pay attention to your eyes and remove lenses and contact us if you experience redness, irritation, or blurry vision.

Our team provides personalized instructions during fittings and follow-up appointments so you can enjoy comfortable, safe lens wear every day.
