What Is Dry Eye?

Dry eye occurs when your tears are insufficient or of poor quality, leaving your eyes irritated and uncomfortable. Common causes include meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), environmental factors, medications, or underlying health conditions.

Several factors can make dry eye worse, including dry air, extended screen time, certain medications, and aging. We evaluate each patient individually to determine what’s contributing to their dry eye and design a treatment plan to address it.

Symptoms and Triggers of Dry Eye

Dry eye symptoms can vary, but often include:

  • Burning, scratchy, or gritty sensations
  • Redness or inflammation
  • Blurry or fluctuating vision
  • Excessive tearing or watery eyes
  • Sensitivity to light

We begin with a thorough diagnostic process to recommend tailored treatment options.

Our Dry Eye Diagnostics

We use precise diagnostic tools to uncover the cause and severity of your dry eye:

  • Dyes and staining: Reveal areas of eye surface damage
  • Subjective Tear Break-Up Time (TBUT): Measures how quickly tears evaporate
  • Meibomian gland evaluation: Assesses gland function and identifies blockages

These tests allow us to tailor treatments specifically to your eyes, rather than offering generic solutions.

Dry Eye Treatments We Offer

Our treatments go beyond simple lubrication, targeting the underlying causes of dry eye:

  • Eyelid sprays and eye masks: Help maintain eyelid hygiene and support oil production
  • Medicated eye drops and prescription therapies: Improve tear quality and reduce irritation
  • Meibomian gland expression: Clears blocked glands to restore natural tear oils
  • Punctal plugs: Keep eyes moist by slowing tear drainage
  • Prokera/Amniotic membrane therapy: Advanced care for more severe or persistent dry eye

Each treatment plan is personalized, often combining therapies for the best results.
